This axe uses a gorgeous piece of wood to present a simple piece of iron, resulting in a rare and beautiful ensemble. The sharply contrasting colors are further accentuated by the geometric planes carved into the wood handle.

A closely-related example is in the collection of the Royal Museum for Central Africa, acquired in 1911 (EO.0.0.2633-16).
